Our Approach
  System Archaeology
System Archaeology uncovers intricacies of legacy systems before changes to those systems or the systems and processes surrounding them are designed. Too often, projects involving legacy systems are launched on the assumption that these systems function using the rules they appear to be using rather than the rules that have actually been adapted over time. Late-surfacing exceptions often force ad hoc design compromises that can cascade as further exceptions appear.

Projects prepared using System Archaeology have a better chance. System Archaeology applies low-cost proof-of-concept builds to extracted production data yielding outputs that can be cross checked against genuine production outputs. Proof-of-concept builds can quickly be adapted and readapted until cross checks are perfect, uncovering hidden inputs, processes and procedures that can derail projects when otherwise discovered much later in the development cycle.

  Process Visualization
Successful IT projects are uncommon in the Financial Securities industry. Interdependencies in the financial markets are complex, and information technology professionals frequently miss the big picture. That creates delays and cost overruns, with the final product reflecting last-minute patchwork applied to meet deadlines. Technology’s promise of efficiencies and lowered costs becomes spent effort and unrecovered costs.

To tackle this challenge, Additon uses a process called Process Visualization. Process Visualization focuses on encapsulating knowledge and infusing it into the members of the team before any other work begins. We build and hone diagrams that emphasize information flow among people and processes integrated with their supporting systems. The diagrams are considered complete once every information flow is accounted for and they become a touchstone for the project’s analysis, architecture, development, testing and release (click here for an example of Process Visualization applied to Institutional STP in Canada) . By weeding out false starts from the beginning, Process Visualization significantly improves project predictability.
